Employability skills are a major concern for most businesses regardless of what they do or how many staff they employ.
These skills are defined by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and businesses generally as:
A set of seven skill areas - the foundation of which is a positive or 'can-do' attitude - that will help young people to gain employment and do well in a work environment, benefitting employers, students and the economy as a whole.
Employability skills make it easier for students to find a job and help them be more productive and efficient in the workplace, leading to greater individual satisfaction and improved career prospects.
Comprehensive research among south London employers concludes they value employability skills as highly as academic qualifications and general work experience - in particular employers value team-working and communication skills.
CEBP runs Employability Skills Workshops that help students prepare for work experience placements. Please view our business or education sections on Employability Skills Workshops for more details, or see our information leaflet.
